Geliebte Clara

Geliebte Clara

A film by Helma Sanders-Brahms

This is an intriguing biography of Clara Schumann (née Clara Wieck), the pianist and composer who at the age of eighteen was swept off her feet by Robert Schumann, a friend of the Wieck family and her music teacher. The couple, played in this film by played by Martina Gedeck and Pascal Greggory, both had an illustrious career and were the parents of eight children. Geliebte Clara starts in the autumn of Robert’s life, a period in which circumstances force Clara to grow into the icon of women’s liberation she is today. Additionally, the drama provides insight into Clara’s relationship with the family’s live-in protégé Johannes Brahms (played by Malik Zidi).
